Maria Buckland L.LB (Hons), Legal Executive

Maria Buckland is qualified lawyer of 5 years post call. Maria initially qualified as an Attorney in New York and then requalified as a Solicitor in Scotland. Maria joined Barking & Brighton in September 2021 as an external Corporate Immigration Consultant.

She advises both individuals and businesses on a broad spectrum of UK immigration matters, covering the Points Based System, EU Free Movement Rights, Human Rights applications, citizenship, and appeal to the Immigration Tribunals. Very often Maria’s clients’ personal circumstances rarely fit neatly into obvious immigration categories, and therefore her cases are frequently of an exceptional and complex nature.

Many clients wish to obtain Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK and subsequent British citizenship. This often involves complex matters such as excess absences from the UK requiring the exercise of discretion by the Home Office in relation to such applications. As a result, Maria is required to assist with the provision of long-term strategic advice, as well as establishing links and connections with the UK for such clients. Maria has represented high net worth and high net worth individuals from the Middle East and Asia.

Prior to joining us, Maria worked with Untired Nations Refugee Council, where she advised on international human rights law. Maris also has extensive experience in advising clients with respect to litigation at the International Courts of Humans Rights.

Outside of work, Maria enjoys cycling and watching movies.
